Taking in Today While Planning for Tomorrow

Updated: Sep 15, 2019

How to stay grounded while your head is in the clouds.

When you are constantly planning for the future, it is easy to get caught up in the someday instead of living in the right now.

So on that note, the mantra for today is “I trust myself and the universe always has my back,” I’ve had all of these thoughts, dreams, and plans swirling around in my mind for the past few weeks and I’m feeling a bit out of balance. Today I’m going to focus on being in the present moment, feeling grounded, and grateful for everything I’m experiencing right now.

Sometimes I get too focused on the future especially planning this lifestyle shift, and forget that all we have is this moment and to breath in as many moments as possible. Time flies by and I don’t want to skip over these planning and excitement stages because I’m too focused on what’s coming.

The moral of the story is to be cognizant and balancing the now with your future plans.

Here are some ways I've found helpful to re-ground yourself:

> A gratitude journal - before you go to bed each night write 3 things you are grateful for from the day. Ending your routine like this is a great time to reflect on your day and remember all the wonderful things that happened in it!

> Checking in with yourself - if you are a calendar person like me, I like to schedule a time (mine is Sunday evenings) where I sit for a moment and really check in with myself. Asking myself how I have been feeling, what I've been focusing my time on, and if there is anything that is bothering me that I need to think through or address, and just slowing down for a moment. This helps me catch on to times when I am feeling unbalanced and address it instead of letting the problem come out in other ways. For me that can be retail therapy, and we all know being a digital nomad the last thing you need is more stuff!

> Meditation - regularly clear you mind and give yourself some head space. It is important during this journey to allow yourself to open up to your intuition and listen to the guidance of your heart/the universe or what ever you believe in. This is a major life shift you are being called to do, don't forgot to check back in for guidance and support.

> Essential Oils - Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Bergamot, and Lavender are all very grounding and relaxing. Diffusing or wearing these oils can help you recenter, along with breath work.

I hope this post finds you in a time to be a healthy reminder for you to stay grounded while you dream up your future plans!
